Iceland Lupine Map
This series of Iceland “maps” are designed by Snorri Thor, the founder of Maps of Iceland. The flowers are picked during the summer months, arranged carefully on a white surface where they are picked and a single photograph is then taken of the flowers.
This particular map shows Lupine, Lupinus nootkatensis—known in its native Alaska and British Columbia as the Nootka lupin, a member of the pea family. Lupine has become one of the most common flowers in Iceland and if you drive the island’s Route 1, which connects the small nation’s cities and towns, in early summer, and it’s like barreling down a road paved straight through lupine fields, as if the flowers came before the road.
